Alexis' body was found four days after she had gone missing.
Alexis Noé Velázquez Delgado, a 21-year-old trans model and winner of the 2024 Fashion Model Xalapa competition, was found dead on July 2 in the Santa Lucía neighborhood of Emiliano Zapata, Veracruz. She had been reported missing since June 28.
Her body was found on the night of Wednesday, July 2, in the Santa Lucía neighborhood, near Alexis's home, where she lived in the municipality of Emiliano Zapata. Her family confirmed her identity that same night.
Alexis disappeared on Saturday, June 28. The State Attorney General's Office has not released official information on the cause of her death.
On the morning of July 3, family members, friends, and people close to Alexis demonstrated on the Las Trancas–Coatepec highway, near Emiliano Zapata, to demand an investigation with a gender perspective.
During the demonstration, photographs of Alexis were displayed and the Attorney General's Office was asked not to rule out the possibility of a hate crime.
The protesters stated that the body was found in an area near Alexis's home, which reinforces their demand for a thorough investigation.
They requested that the FGE report on the progress of the investigation and that the case be addressed as an act of violence against a trans woman.
Alexis was the winner of the Fashion Model Xalapa 2024 casting call, making her a role model for other trans women in the region. Her disappearance raised concerns among sexual diversity groups and human rights defenders.
