Bhiwandi auto driver held for abetting transgender partner's suicide

States » WestPosted at: Aug 5 2025 11:14PM Mumbai, Aug 5 (UNI) A 28-year-old autorickshaw driver was arrested in Bhiwandi town of neighbouring Thane district for allegedly abetting the suicide of his 23-year-old transgender partner, police confirmed today.

The accused faces charges under Section 108 (abetment of suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

According to Assistant Police Inspector Shivaji Patil of Bhoiwada police, the victim ended their life by [suicide method redacted] in their residence on August 1. Both individuals were residents of Bhiwandi and had been in a relationship.

Investigations revealed the accused persistently harassed the victim through frequent calls, creating severe distress. The victim's brother filed a formal complaint citing this pattern of harassment as the catalyst for the suicide.

Following the complaint, police apprehended the autorickshaw driver on Sunday. Authorities affirmed the ongoing legal proceedings in the case.
