Isabela died in hospital 10 days after being found unconscious in her home.
According to Centro de Apoyo a las Identidades Trans, she had been beaten.
In the final hours of Saturday, September 21, the death of a trans woman was confirmed, after she had been hospitalized for 10 days at a medical center in Medellín.
The death of JABM, known as Isabela, occurred amidst a severe depressive crisis, apparently exacerbated by alleged acts of workplace harassment related to her identity as a member of the LGBTIQ+ community
The 23-year-old was found on September 12 in her home, located in the París neighborhood of Bello, with injuries and unconscious. Her health deteriorated from then on, and she was hospitalized, where she eventually died.
This year, Isabela had been hospitalized twice for mental health problems, a result of the bullying she suffered at her workplace in a large department store. The aggression from superiors and coworkers went so far that she attempted suicide on one of those occasions.
Isabela's tragic story highlights the urgent need to address workplace harassment and protect the rights of people in the LGBTIQ+ community, as well as the importance of offering adequate psychological support to those facing similar situations.
